To earn the First Class
rank, a Scout must demonstrate growing self-sufficiency, a
well-honed ability to take care of others, and proven
leadership ability. Earning this rank is a significant
achievement, symbolizing the transition from a "hiker" Scout
to a "camper" Scout. The specific accomplishments required to
achieve this rank included demonstrating a solid understanding
of basic survival skills, administering first-aid, and
exhibiting a firm understanding of the rights and obligations
of all U.S. citizens.
